Abstract:
This data set consists of digital aerial photo images obtained from 1"=1667' scale black and-white negatives aquired in the spring of 1980. The pixel resolution of the 400-scale imagery is one foot on the ground. The images are in a single county-wide file in MrSID compressed format with the accompanying sid "world" (sdw) files.
Purpose: Dataset was created to provide historical imagery record for Waukesha County.

The horizontal positional accuracy of the data varies depending on terrain and the quality of image control points common to the historic imagery and the control data set. Generally the image data is accurate to approximately +/- 40 feet horizontally though there may be instances where the imagery does not meet this standard.

Source Contribution: Aerial photography was provided by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. Photography was flown at a 1"=1667' negative scale in 1980.

Process Description:
Aerial photography film negatives were scanned on a photogrammetric scanner at a 15-micron scanning rate scan rate. To georeference the digital images, Ayres Associates selected a minimum five control points for each image. Year 2000 SEWRPC digital orthophotography for Waukesha County was used as the control data set. The best common points within the control source data and the historical image data were selected. Commonly used features included roads, fence lines, structures, utility features, and a number of other manmade and natural features. Once control data was selected for each image the image was georeferenced using a projective method. The images were processed to the control points using Z/I Imaging software. When processing was completed for each project year, orthophotography technicians proceeded with the final processing including mosiacing, tone balancing, editing, and tiling.
